WARNING!!!!! MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!!!!
I saw the Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the Sea of Monsters movie yesterday. Here are some things you should know before you go see it. I'm also going to compare the movie to the book.
1. You have to walk into the movie with an open mind. If you go in there expecting it to be exactly like the book, not only are you going to be disappointed, but you are going to miss out on a decent movie.
2. If you've seen the trailer for the movie, you know Leven Rambin (who also plays Glimmer in the Hunger Games) is Clarisse. I'm here to say although I was skeptical at first of her being picked for this role, she was amazing as Clarisse.
3. If you haven't seen the first movie, don't bother going to see this one. But if you just have to see this movie, see the Lightning Thief first. Buy it, rent it, borrow it from a friend.
4. This movie is extremely funny. We laughed during almost every scene. This movie represents the humor from the books. It's nothing drastic, but the little lines they put in the script make this really funny.
5. It wasn't very smooth. What I mean is, one second it's all dark and gloomy and Percy is handing the Fleece to Clarisse at CirceLand and the next second Chiron is handing it to her at Camp, and it's all cheery and bright.
6. They took out the part with Circe turning Percy into a guinea pig. So if all you want is to see that part, don't go to the movie.
7. At the beginning of the movie it shows Luke, Annabeth, Grover and Thalia running towards Camp. This is kinda minor, but it's important to me. Annabeth is the same age as Thalia and Luke.
8. Percy is told the Great Prophecy in this movie. And they changed it. It is now:
A child of the Eldest Gods
Shall reach twenty against all odds.
And see the world in endless sleep.
The evil soul, cursed blade shall reap.
A single choice shall end his days.
Olympus, to preserve or raze.
See the difference?
9. In this movie, they mention Chris and Ethan, though Ethan doesn't have an eye patch. Also mentioned is Silena Beauregard, though what really bugged me is she is mentioned with Chris and Ethan on Luke's ship. Even though she was the spy, she WASN'T part of Luke's rebel gang of demigods.
10. Luke's ship the Andromeda, not the Princess Andromeda like in the book, is a yacht not a cruise ship, therefor it is much, much, MUCH smaller than the Princess Andromeda.
11. The book is still better than the movie, but it was a good movie. I'm going to see it again in theatres, then be one of the first to buy it.
Looking back, I guess it wasn't that huge a Spoiler Alert after all. I wanted there to be plenty of surprises. Overall, this was a great movie that I would love to see again and one day own. So, demigods, what are you waiting for? Go and see this movie.
